Banks and Competition Policy

Het Amsterdam Center for Corporate Finance organiseerde op donderdag 5 maart een lunchseminar over het mededingingsbeleid in de financiële sector, en de mogelijke spanning hierop veroorzaakt door de kredietcrisis. Spreker is Professor Xavier Vives, actief betrokken bij deze problematiek als mededingingsspecialist.

 

Het onderwerp behoeft weinig toelichting. De huidige crisis leidt tot vragen omtrent mededinging in de bancaire sector zowel door vermeende staatssteun, alswel de mogelijke consolidatiegolf die deze crisis lijkt te veroorzaken. De afweging tussen mededinging en stabiliteit zal in zijn voordracht met titel, “Competition and Stability in Banking: A New World for Competition Policy?” centraal staan.

 

Xavier Vives is hoogleraar aan de IESE Business School in Barcelona en een van de grootste specialisten op het gebied van de industriële organisatie in de wereld (en een eerdere spreker voor het ACCF). Begin 2008 was hij organisator van het project “Competition Policy in Europe: Fifty Years after the Treaty”.
