Economic Policy in the Eurozone: The Case of Slovenia

Professor Dušan Mramor (Former Minister of Finance of Slovenia and University of Ljubljana) talked about the Eurozone and the economic policy of Slovenia.

Mramor, who was actively involved in the transition process integrating Slovenia in the Eurozone, will be talking about the economic crisis the country faced and the decisions taken under his guidance by the Slovenian governments in response to it since 2000, focusing on how these pulled the country out of crisis. Mramor’s  diagnosis and unorthodox measures differ considerably from those favoured by the EU.

Dušan Mramor is full Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana and served as the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Slovenia for the second term from 2014-2016 after a first term between 2004-2006. He has been active over a long period in leading advising and policy making positions concerning Slovenian national economic policy.

Prior to his current position he was among other things a member of the council of the National Bank of Slovenia, member of the Admission Board of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, first Chairman of the Securities Market Agency of Slovenia, member of the Strategic Economic Council of the Prime Minister of Slovenia and member of the Advisory Board of the President of Slovenia. He also served as a member of the supervisory board of the Slovenian Abanka Bank, as vice president of the board of SKB bank, as a World Bank consultant and as a member of the Slovenian Accounting Standards Board. For his contribution to the revival of Slovenian economy he was granted the award of European Finance Minister of the Year 2016 by The Banker.
